Welcome to the 2019-2020 School Year!

One of the core values here at Manitou Springs Elementary is our desire to grow the WHOLE CHILD. From nurturing staff and classroom settings, to the Core Knowledge Language Arts, Social Studies, and Science curricula, to hands on learning experiences and field trips, authentic learning continues to strengthen and deepening content for all students each and every day.

Extension and enrichment or teacher collaboration will take place at every grade level. Sometimes this looks like a whole-group lesson I go into the classroom to share. Other times this is a consistent pull-out where I work with a specific group of students to take learning to the next level and apply it to authentic activities. By partnering with teachers, I will continue supporting regular curriculum to help make learning more vivid and meaningful. Together, we will help your child reach new skill levels and build personal interest to hold themselves to more productive standards!

Parent and Teacher Gifted "FIT" Workshop THIS WEEK!

Please pass this message along!
Dear Parents and Teachers of Gifted Children,
You are invited to a Pikes Peak Association for Gifted Students sponsored presentation in coordination with Colorado Springs School District 11.

The Gifted Child's Existential Dilemma - So often we hear gifted youth of all ages lamenting the fact that "no one gets them!" Peers don't seem to share the same concerns they have.  They see their peers as having a preoccupation with "meaningless things."  This creates isolation that so often results in periods of depression, and prevents gifted youth from fully engaging due to fears and doubts they carry about themselves.  This presentation and discussion will focus on how we can support our youth in their quest for answers, helping them lean how to cope and manage the discomfort of the unknown.

A presentation by Jenny Hecht, LCSW, CYT
Jenny Hecht is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker and Certified Yoga Teacher with 15 years of experience working with individuals between the ages of 8 years to adults in a variety of settings.  She has a passion for supporting the specific social-emotional needs of gifted individuals, particularly the existential dilemma so many face beginning at a very young age.  Her work with gifted individuals has extended to consultation and support for educational professionals who work with this population.
