Welcome to the 2019-2020 School Year!

One of the core values here at Manitou Springs Elementary is our desire to grow the WHOLE CHILD. From nurturing staff and classroom settings, to the Core Knowledge Language Arts, Social Studies, and Science curricula, to hands on learning experiences and field trips, authentic learning continues to strengthen and deepening content for all students each and every day.

Extension and enrichment or teacher collaboration will take place at every grade level. Sometimes this looks like a whole-group lesson I go into the classroom to share. Other times this is a consistent pull-out where I work with a specific group of students to take learning to the next level and apply it to authentic activities. By partnering with teachers, I will continue supporting regular curriculum to help make learning more vivid and meaningful. Together, we will help your child reach new skill levels and build personal interest to hold themselves to more productive standards!

National Junior Solar Sprint

Junior Solar Sprint On-line Competition Open The Junior Solar Sprint (JSS) program, funded by United States Army Educational Outreach Program (AEOP) and administered by TSA, now offers students a national on-line competition.
Participation in the national Junior Solar Sprint program is available to students in 4th through 8th grade as either an on-line competition or a local on-site race. JSS is open to all students, whether or not they are members of TSA. Registration for the on-line competition is open until March 30, 2013.
Many local and regional JSS events, which often include student and teacher training workshops and races, are offered by schools, youth groups and organizations across the country. The JSS website provides an interactive events calendar that allows users to find details on student workshops, teacher training and race events.
On-line JSS Competition
The national Junior Solar Sprint website includes extensive resources to for teachers and mentors to engage youth in the designing, building, and racing of model solar cars. With the guidance of teachers/mentors/parents, students can design and build a model solar car and enter the on-line competition to see how their model compares to other competitors across the nation. Car details, including project documentation, design drawings and photographs, are uploaded to the JSS website. Students videotape their model car and upload the video and time trial results. Student entries are judged by grade level (4th, 5th, 6th, 7th and 8th) based on all required documentation in addition to the best time trials. Awards are given to the top five rated entries for each grade. Visit http://jrsolarsprint.org/on-line-competition for more information and complete competition rules.
